Giving your Year to God

Posted: January 6, 2012 in Harvest Youth

The new year

-What will be different this year?

Did you know that around 45% of Americans make a new years resolution, and only 50% are still at it after 6 months?

25% Drop out after one week!

I really don’t do new years resolutions often, but one thing I do is I go on a long fast in January, every year.

The purpose of this fast is to give God the first of everything.

My question to you is this: Will you trust God this year and allow Him to lead you all year?

-You might not know how to know God better.

Here’s a few things I do to grow in my relationship with Christ.
1. Read every day.

-How can we expect to know God if we do not read his instruction manual!
-He has given us His Word, so that we could live a Godly life.
Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden Your word on my heart, so I might not sin against you.”
-The Bible isn’t a book you read one time, it’s a book for every day.

2. Pray every day

-Talk to God, and listen to God.
Philippians 4:6-7 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

3. Journal and or blog!

-I have a journal that is full of victories from last year!

4. Trust Him with everything.

-In order to trust God with everything, we have to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. (Rom 10:9)

Do we know Him, really know Him?

Is He the one who is making the choices for you, or are you trying to fit Him into your life.

Francis Chan said, “Jesus is a great Savior, but not a great Role Model.”

We want to have a little Jesus in our lives, but we don’t want to live like Jesus lived.

Luke 9:23 says that, “if anyone wants to come with me (Jesus) he must deny Himself, take up his cross Daily, and follow me.”

You know one thing about a man carrying a cross … He’s not coming back. -A.W. Tozer

So, how can we live different this year.

1. Start small, 15 min a day.
5 min reading, 5 minutes journaling, 5 min praying

Don’t stay there, you’ll want to read and pray more once you start, but the point is to START!

2. Recommit to Jesus, or give your life to Him now!

3. Stick to it!
Don’t be like most Americans who quit, don’t give up.

2 Tim 2:15
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.

God Bless,

Dan Fogarty.
