The ONE true Faith? part 2: Jesus admitted He was created, right?

Posted: December 3, 2011 in Apologetics, Jehovah Witness, the ONE true faith?, Truth, WHAT?

Jehovah Witnesses will tell you they are the one true faith, and that every other church in the world is part of “Babylon the Great”. this series will discuss some of their flaws and false doctrines. I pray you are encouraged and equipped for the next time you meet a Jehovah’s Witness, and you can use the tools I will give you to witness to them.

Jesus admitted He was created, right?

Jehovah Witnesses (JW) will tell you that Jehovah God created Jesus. They use three verses to validate their position. The first two are Colossians 1:15 and 2 Corinthians 5:21.

Col 1:15 KJV Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature

2 Cor 5:21 KJV For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

The KVJ is the ONLY translation (outside of there own counterfeit translation) that they will pay attention to and carry with them.

With regards to these verses, Peter warned us long ago about those who would pervert Paul’s words.

2 Pet 3:14-18 HCSB Therefore, dear friends, while you wait for these things, make every effort to be found at peace with Him without spot or blemish. Also, regard the patience of our Lord as [an opportunity for] salvation, just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him.
He speaks about these things in all his letters in which there are some matters that are hard to understand. The untaught and unstable twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures. Therefore, dear friends, since you know this in advance, be on your guard, so that you are not led away by the error of lawless people and fall from your own stability.

Now, a brief study in the Greek and taking the context of the whole passage of these verses make it clear that they are not referring to Jesus as a created being.

Col 1:18 says, “He is the beginning (ARCHE),
the firstborn from the dead,”

The word beginning is the greek word ARCHE translated as ruler or source.

This word ARCHE is not only seen in Col 1:18, but also in Revelation 3:14.

Rev 3:14 KJV And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning (ARCHE) of the creation of God;

This is the verse that a JW will use to hit his point home. This is Jesus referring to himself as, “the beginning of the creation of God.” But is this an accurate translation? No it is not.

Once again, the word beginning is the Greek word ARCHE, meaning ruler or Source. Lets look at a few other verses in there favorite translation (KJV) for more evidence that the word ARCHE means ruler of source.

Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning (ARCHE) and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Rev 21:6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning (ARCHE) and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning (ARCHE) and the end, the first and the last.

In all four verses (rev 1:8, 3:14, 21:6, 22:13) Jesus is referring to Himself as three titles. Never once does Jesus say that He was created by God, rather, He is the source of all creation, because as John 1:1 tells us, He always existed with God in the beginning. He is the ruler of creation, because He is God.

Lets look at what a few other translations have done with Rev 3:14.

HCSB Write to the angel of the church in Laodicea:
”The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator of God’s creation says

Amplified And to the angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the trusty and faithful and true Witness, the Origin and Beginning and Author of God’s creation:

CEB Write this to the angel of the church in Laodicea:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation

CEV This is what you must write to the angel of the church in Laodicea: I am the one called Amen! I am the faithful and true witness and the source of God’s creation. Listen to what I say.

NIV “To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:
These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation.

So, you can see I was not the only one who came up with this translation.

We have to study and know God’s word, so that we can be ready to defend our faith and stand up for our beloved Jesus, who always was, always is, and always will be. I pray that you find this encouraging and exciting.

God Bless,
Dan Fogarty.
