Why I am not worried about Irene

Posted: August 26, 2011 in Norfolk Adventures

In case you have not heard, there is some storm that is about to hit Norfolk VA and the surrounding areas. Today I went to the store to buy a few bags of ice and a bigger cooler (just incase we loose power) and they had no shopping carts, the lines were out of the store, and they were sold out completely of bottled water. People were really preparing for the storm… It reminded me that so many people prepare for things like a storm, retirement, or something that has to do with this life, but they do not always prepare for there eternity. What if you died today, tomorrow, or in hurricane Irene? Are you ready?

Matt 10:28-31 Don’t fear those who kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; rather, fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Aren’t two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s consent. But even the hairs of your head have all been counted. So don’t be afraid therefore; you are worth more than many sparrows.

Many of the people who are preparing their homes are not preparing their hearts. Americans in most situations respond immediately, only to abandon what they thought they should have done soon after. What I mean is the day the rapture was suppose to happen Jesus Daily on Facebook reported a record salvation count! So many people thought the world was going to end that they responded to the call, maybe because they wanted to know Jesus, or maybe just in an attempt to avoid Hell… I wonder how many of those people are still following Jesus, or if they just realized He was not coming back and thought they had more time. The weekend after 9/11 record numbers went to church… Now that Irene is about to hit Americans are once again preparing for the immediate danger, but like a friend of mine says, if you are always ready, you do not need to get ready.

Matt 24:44 This is why you also must be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Jesus could be coming on the clouds of Irene, or I could die before He comes back, but I know I am suppose to be ready for Him, so why would I be worried about a storm? Christians, lets be strong out here! Enough people are freaking out we do not need to help them. Of course if you live in an evacuation zone you should go, but if you just live in the area of the storm… lets keep our heads! Don’t freak out, be ready… If you’re not ready, get ready! Grab some bottled water, a couple bags of Ice, and get in that WORD YA’LL!!!

Christ be glorified

Good post, Dan. While I do think you need to be prepared and be wise (use the brain God gave ya!), we do tend to be much more concerned about earthly emergencies than we do about eternal emergencies. You guys be careful, but also be a light and a help to those around you. I know you will. Praying for you all!
